I delete comments (an in-house notice)

Just a quick post here to say that I have no problem whatsoever in censoring any hate-filled, bullshit comments anyone leaves under IKN posts* such as the flaming that Mark who lives in Huntingdon England (note England, not the UK, I wouldn't lump Scottish or Welsh or Northern Irish in with his jingoistic nonsense) decided to leave under that last post about The Falklands/Las Islas Malvinas, or the utter moron who thinks he has some God-given right to free speech over Trevali Resources and because of that, has put his blood pressure under stress by trying to post his insults here instead of somewhere else.

There are thousands, nay millions of websites, blogs and all sorts that accept trollers but this is not one of them. If you have something constructive to say then by all means say it, but don't think for a minute that you can spill the hate you feel for an issue or your humble scribe and I'll just let it sit there. Go play on Stockhouse (TV.to anon) or The Daily Mail (Mark from Huntingdon) and provide all the free speech you want to anyone that cares to listen, but IKN is the proud purveyor of an orderly and tightly-run dictatorship, not one of your old-fangled democracies. Le blog, c'est moi.

* you can't see the option on the main front page, but the comments box is available under the individual posts

As for the Falklands, I don't see why anyone should go to war over a rock covered in a few thousand sheep. Nevertheless, since it's Old Blightey, and I've still got a soft spot for Britannia kicking the crap out of Spaniards like it was in the old days under Goode Queene Elizabeth, I'll root for the UK.

Of course I'm also the type of fellow who's in favour of the Queen regularly executing anyone who causes trouble - another great feature of Goode Queene Liz. There wouldn't have been any tabloid wiretap crap going on under Liz the First, I'd wager! It'd be choppy-chop, off with their heads, then back to lunch with Nursie and Lord Melchett.

All this illustrates that my opinion is more extreme than the opinions of anyone you will ever meet in your lifetime.

The thing is, a blog doesn't have to be a democracy! It's your space! I like the comments option and find it disappointed when it's not there on certain blogs, but ultimately - your space, your rules.

At the same time, if the UK ever went to war with Iceland over the Isle of Lewis & Harris, a similar rock covered with a few thousand sheep, I'd be rooting for the Viking pillagers instead. Just as a clarification of where my loyalties really lie.

I would post some facts on the legal rights of Britain to the Falklands but it will be deleted.
I would say however that the only reason Argentina are trying to kick up a fuss is because UK companies have discovered and are in the process of hopefully discovering oil...Oh and it goes down well with the voters

It will be interesting to see what happens when/if Falkalnd oil companies Farm out to US oil majors.

I would say 95% of the UK population are not in favour of any negotiation regarding the Flaklands. There was a chance of this before Argentina invaded in the '80 but its a political no go for now in the UK, and Id imagine several decades.

And what about South Georgia? Are we to see this great British territory also lost to the swarthy Spanish hordes?

Otto Rock said...

Then there are the South Sandwich Islands off South Georgia. And the South Marmite Islands after those.

(ok, i made that last one up)

I know! What next, St. Helena? Antarctica? Once the dominoes start falling, you can't make them stop. Maggie Thatcher understood this, but of course a trade unionist like yourself just can't admit she was right.... :-)

I get it... Marmite... Sandwich...

It's like talking to our resident Geordie here at work. A half hour after you walk away you realize he was constructing coherent sentences.

hey otto, how about a little indicator on the main page with the number of comments per article, as on most blogs. i sometimes get a bigger kick out of the comments than i do the original post and i've missed most comments on your blog because i'm too lazy to click through to check.

I've seen a lot of Brits on the internet talk about how Cristina is doing this to get votes. Not that she is above demagoguery of course, but is it really that hard to do basic research to figure out that she was just re-elected, and that the Argentine economy is fine?

This is all about the Brits trying to profit from South Atlantic oil without sharing the wealth.
