The value of debate on Bolivia

Bolivian farmland for indigenous

It's better to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt"
(Trad. maxim, sometimes attributed to Mark Twain)

I like Abiding in Bolivia, a blog that tells the side of the today's Bolivia otherwise virtually available in the English language. The reason why I took to it straight away was the basis in fact, not conjecture and how 'duderino' clearly knows his subject deeply (and the sharp sense of humour helps mountains, too).

Here's an example of what I'm talking about. Under this blog (it was a good 'un, and already mentioned here) duderino debates 'democraticvoice'. Duderino doesn't fall into the name-calling game, nor does he belittle his opponent in the dialogue. He calmly states the facts. Then repeats them. Then brings in more evidence.

Bolivian farmland for the autonomists.
Notice any differences?

On having the facts demonstrated to him/her, democraticvoice's reaction was to disappear without trace. No "Hmmm, maybe you have a point" or "Well, I'll have to concede that, even though I'm against the Evo gov't". Just a roaring silence. I found it very interesting to watch the normal, boring anti-Evo propaganda exercise dismantled so very well, and also the lack of courtesy shown by the person that duderino had taken time to enlighten.
